Wigan Athletic are interested in signing midfielder Scott Fraser from MK Dons during the summer transfer window, a report from a print edition of The Sun (06/06, p63) has claimed.
Fraser only joined MK Dons from another League One side, Burton Albion, last summer, and enjoyed an impressive debut season at The Stadium MK, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in 44 league appearances.
Now it appears as though the 26-year-old is starting to attract interest from elsewhere in the third-tier heading into the summer market.
According to this latest update, Wigan are now keen on a move for Fraser, as they look to strengthen their squad under their new ownership.
It is thought that the Latics are lining up the signing of Fraser for a fee in the region of £400,000.
Does the DW Stadium have a higher or lower capacity than these 18 grounds?
If confirmed, Fraser could be Wigan’s second recruit of the summer, with the club having already announced the signing of centre back Jack Whatmough on a free transfer from Portsmouth.
I think this would be a very good signing for Wigan if they do manage to get it done.
The Latics are going have to undergo something of a squad overhaul this summer, following what was something of a stop-gap season that only saw them narrowly avoid relegation from League One before coming out of administration late in the campaign.
Fraser made an impressive impact for MK Dons last season, and the attacking threat he brings would be a big boost for Wigan if they could add it to their squad.
The fact they are willing to spend a fee such as this is also promising for Wigan, given the financial challenges they were facing not that long ago, and it does highlight the commitment that their new owners have to the club.
