According to a reliable football journalist, Forest Green Rovers have lodged a substantial bid for Wigan Athletic attacker Kaiyne Woolery.

Football journalist Alan Nixon is reporting that Forest Green Rovers have made a bid for Kaiyne Woolery which is more than the fee that Wigan Athletic paid to bring him in from Bolton Wanderers.

Woolery joined Wigan Athletic last summer from Bolton Wanderers but only made one substitute appearance before being farmed out on loan to Forest Green Rovers.

Then in non-league, Woolery played an integral role in helping Forest Green win their first ever promotion to the Football League.

The 22-year-old scored twice in the 3-1 play-off final victory over Tranmere Rovers last May and Forest Green now want to re-sign him on a permanent deal.

Able to play anywhere in attacking midfield or as a striker, Woolery provides Forest Green with some versatility in their attacking options.

Wigan Athletic signed Ivan Toney this summer and have other attacking options such as Will Grigg so they might be tempted to let Woolery go.

However, Nixon is reporting that Wigan Athletic have not accepted this bid yet.

However, this deal could be completed as soon as today, provided that no rivals come in and poach this deal.

The Verdict

Forest Green Rovers would love to have Kaiyne Woolery back given his heroics last season.

He provides versatility, pace and a potent attacking threat from midfield.

The 22-year-old is still young, too, and seems surplus to requirements at Wigan - this deal favours all parties seen as Wigan have received a hefty fee for him.
