Wigan Athletic plotting move for prolific lower league striker

Sky Bet Championship side Wigan Athletic are plotting a move for Grimsby Town’s prolific striker Omar Bogle, according to the Sun (Goals pullout, page 15, 25/09/16).

Having played a crucial role in Grimsby Town’s long overdue return to the Football League, Omar Bogle has continued his fine goalscoring form in League 2.

Omar Bogle is currently the top goalscorer in League 2 with eight goals and two assists in nine League 2 outings, with his most recent goal being the winner in a tight game between Grimsby Town and Mansfield Town.

Bogle’s early run of form has been attracting attention from across the Football League, most notably Wigan Athletic have reported their interest in the 23-year-old striker.

Although the gap between Sky Bet League 2 and the Sky Bet Championship is a large one, Bogle has all the necessary attributes to not only step up but thrive at a higher level.

If Wigan Athletic are to prise Omar Bogle away from Grimsby Town, it could potentially take a fee around the £1 million mark to persuade Grimsby to allow their prolific striker to leave.

Wigan fans, how do you feel about the news? Would you like to see Omar Bogle join your club in the January transfer window? Is another goal scoring striker to take some of the pressure off Will Grigg vital? Would you prefer Wigan to look for a more well established Football League striker?
