Wigan Athletic are interested in signing Reading defender Tyler Blackett in January, according to reports from HITC Sport.

The 24-year-old has been a regular for the Royals this season, making 15 appearances for the Berkshire club, who currently sit one place above the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Due to the Royals' precarious position in the table, a switch to the DW Stadium could be a very tempting move for Blackett, who came through the youth ranks at Premier League giants Manchester United.

Blackett emerged as first-term regular under Louis van Gaal and made 12 senior appearances for the Red Devils, then after loan spells at Blackpool, Birmingham City and Celtic, he then sealed a move to the Madejski Stadium in 2016 - he has since made over 80 appearances for the club.

Paul Cook's Latics, who are reportedly keen on bolstering their defence ahead of the second-half of the campaign, currently sit 16th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

The Verdict

Blackett has found it tough at times for Reading during his spell in Berkshire, but overall, has been a solid figure for the Royals.

He already has a lot of experience under his belt having played for Scotland's best team, as well as featuring for Manchester United in the Premier League.

Wigan could be the perfect move for him, and Blackett could be the perfect signing for them, if Cook's men are serious about pushing up the table in the second half of the 2018-19 campaign.
