Wigan captain, Sam Morsy, has heaped praise on loanee, Charlie Mulgrew, after his impact since joining from Blackburn.

Mulgrew joined the Latics late in the transfer window on a season-long loan, which surprised many supporters of the Championship as the defender was the current club captain at his parent side, Blackburn.

Recently he has come into the side and has helped Wigan stay unbeaten in their last three fixtures whilst also contributing with his excellent set-piece deliveries.

Morsy has praised the defender and thinks that his presence around the club has contributed to performances on the pitch.

Talking to Wigan Today, Morsy said: "It’s a new weapon that we haven’t really had in previous seasons – a set-piece specialist.

“Obviously we’ve played against him a few times over the years, and the delivery he has is frightening.

“If you’re looking at someone who’s going to come in and provide so many assists and goals...he’s like a £10 million attacking midfielder!

“Defensively, too, he’s been top class...I was surprised Blackburn were prepared to let him go. “With his all-round performance, presence about the place he’s been a fantastic signing.” [ad_pod ]
The Verdict It's been a good start for Mulgrew since coming into the club and he's added an extra dimension to their attacking play through his ability to create something from almost every set-piece that he takes. It's such an added threat and one that must be loved by manager Paul Cook, especially when he's also performing really well in the defence. A clean sheet against a good Charlton side on the weekend signals some intent from the Latics but they will be challenged even more when they travel to Fulham on Friday night.
