AC Milan are still interested in signing Wigan Athletic full-back Antonee Robinson, a report from The Sun has claimed.

The Italian giants had been close to completing a deal for Robinson on the final day of the January transfer window, before the move collapsed when it was discovered that the defender had an irregular heartbeat that would need surgery to rectify.

Following that breakdown in the move, Robinson returned to Wigan, but has yet to play for the Latics since the transfer collapsed, as he waits to undergo the operation he needs to address the issue with his heart.

Despite that, the latest reports have stated that Milan are still keen to bring Robinson to Italy once the USA international has had his surgery, although that has apparently been delayed by the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak that has brought almost the entire football world to a halt.

Even so, Milan's technical director and club legend Paolo Maldini, has reportedly remained in contact with Robinson since the collapse of his move, with The Rossoneri seemingly keen to keep themselves in pole position to secure the left-back's services.

It has been suggested that the situation around Robinson means there may need to be some change to the fee and wages that make up the deal, but that the player himself is still hopeful the move can be completed eventually.

Robinson only signed a three-year contract with Wigan last summer, after making his loan move from Everton permanent, securing his future at the DW Stadium until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Verdict

This will surely be a big relief for Robinson.

Seeing that move to a club the size of Milan fall through in the way it did will have been absolutely gutting, so the fact that the opportunity to make that switch still appears to be there will surely be keeping his spirits up at the minute.

Indeed, the fact that someone such as Maldini himself is keeping in touch with Robinson shows just how much Milan want him, which is only likely to boost his morale further, although it is of course vital his health and well-being that this heart issue that has been uncovered is sorted out, before either Robinson or Milan can even attempt to complete the deal.
