Wigan Athletic could look to sign Colchester United left-back Cohen Bramall, if Antonee Robinson leaves the club to join AC Milan, Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has revealed.

It was reported late last week that Milan are lining up a £10million bid for Robinson, who only made his loan move from Everton to Wigan permanent during the most recent summer transfer window.

According to this latest update, it now seems as though Wigan are assessing their options should such a deal go through, with Thomas claiming that the Latics had scouts watching Bramall in Colchester's 3-1 win over Swindon on Tuesday night, a game in which the 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes.

Bramall only joined Colchester following his release by Premier League side Arsenal last summer, and has since gone on make 23 appearances in all competitions for the League Two side, scoring once in a 3-0 win over Carlisle in December.

The defender signed a two-year contract with Colchester last summer, securing his future with the club until the end of next season.

Wigan are currently 22nd in the Championship table, four points adrift of safety despite their 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

The Verdict

This may not be a bad option for Wigan to consider.

The defender's past recruitment by Arsenal does suggest there is potential there to be exploited, while the fee they would reportedly be set to receive for Robinson should surely make this deal easily affordable for the Latics.

However, there may be some concern about Bramall's lack of Championship experience so far in his career, which currently amounts to a brief loan spell at Birmingham City back in the 2017/18 season.

With time running out in the window, Wigan may need to have this move ready to go as soon as any potential departure for Robinson is confirmed, since they are not going to want to get caught short on numbers in the fight for Championship survival over the next few months.
