Wigan Athletic hit with major blow as key duo are set to depart the club

Wigan Athletic are set to lose two key players this summer, according to Sky Sports News HQ.

Sky Sports News HQ believes that both Omar Bogle and Max Power will be heading for the exit door this summer.

According to Sky Sports, Omar Bogle has been placed on the transfer list.

Sky sources understand that new Wigan Athletic manager Omar Bogle does not think that is the correct fit for his style of play.

As a result, the 24-year-old will be allowed to leave if a club matches Wigan Athletic’s £800,000 valuation.

It is thought that his availability will alert Barnsley, Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers, who are all interested in signing the former Solihull Moors and Grimsby Town forward.

Bogle joined Wigan on deadline day in January 2017 after scoring 19 goals for Grimsby Town in League Two prior to his move.

Since his switch, the powerful 6ft 3in striker managed three goals in fourteen appearances for the Latics but looks set for the exit door.

As well as Bogle, Power is thought to be on his way out too.

Max Power has told the club that he wishes to leave to move back to the Championship.

The 23-year-old has played just shy of 100 games for Wigan since joining from Tranmere Rovers in 2015.

Both Power and Bogle are training with the youth team as they secure their move.

The Verdict

This will be a major blow for Wigan fans, who were probably very excited about seeing Bogle in action in League One.

Max Power is a hardworking and tenacious midfielder who will be missed as well.

But it must be remembered that these players are not irreplaceable: Wigan will probably get near to £1m for the pair of them and this can be reinvested in other transfer targets.

Wigan fans – what do you make of this? Who can replace Bogle and Power? Let us know below…
