Wigan Athletic are to battle with Aberdeen to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Donervon Daniels, according to the Sun.

The centre-back spent the first half of the season on loan at Championship side Blackpool, where he made 19 appearances, but after his loan spell ended in December, he joined Scottish side Aberdeen, where he played eight times.

Wigan are keen to sign the centre back, undoubtedly on loan, in what they’re calling ‘The new era’ under Gary Caldwell, after relegation to League One from the Championship this season.

They’re looking to overhaul they’re squad and pick up the pieces from a torrid season, after originally being promotion favourites at the beginning of the campaign under Uwe Rosler, who has this week joined Leeds United.

They made their first signing in Walsall keeper Richard O’Donell on a free transfer, after he decided to snub a new deal at the club.

The Latics finished 23rd after amassing 39 points this season.
