Wigan captain Emmerson Boyce has commented on the controversy surrounding the appointment of his new manager Malky Mackay, stating that “Wigan have hit the jackpot in getting him here.”

Boyce has praised the appointment of Mackay

Boyce has written a column for the Wigan Evening Post, in which he stated that “people make mistakes” in reference to the recent text scandal that the FA are currently investigating Mackay for his involvement in.

Mackay allegedly sent texts of a racist, homophobic and sexist nature during his tenure as Cardiff City boss, and his appointment as Wigan Athletic manager has been met with much controversy and furore.

But Boyce believes the appointment is a positive move forward for the club.

“Look at Malky’s record, I think Wigan have hit the jackpot in getting him here,” the Latic’s captain says in his column.

“We’ve all read the papers and we’ve seen what’s happened, but all we can do is concentrate on our jobs, listen to him and hope he guides us in the right direction.

“People make mistakes, things happen, and if he can get us promoted then I’m sure people will be talking about the positives rather than the negatives.”
