Wigan Athletic have today completed their seventh signing of the summer in the form of Ivorian centre-back Cedric Kipre, announced the club's official website

The 21-year-old moves from Scottish Premier League side Motherwell for an undisclosed fee and on a three-year deal after an impressive season north of the border.

Kipre made 32 appearances in the SPL last season and contributed four assists. He made 49 appearances in all competitions during the 2017/18.

He follows Leo Da Silva Lopes, Kal Naismith, Christian Walton, Calum McManaman, Reece James and Antonee Robinson into the DW Stadium this summer.

Manager Paul Cook led his side to an impressive League One title triumph last season meaning the club bounced straight back from their relegation the season before.

Kipre moved his way up through the Leicester City ranks before being allowed to leave on a free transfer at the end of the 2016/17 season and was quickly snapped up by Motherwell.

The verdict

This looks to be another solid signing for the Latics as they look to consolidate their place in the Championship after a few seasons of turbulence.

They will survive comfortably next season and their business in this transfer window has been smart and shrewd.

The squad they were promoted with last season was a League One squad, so, having held onto the likes of Nick Powell and Will Grigg, should survive comfortably.
