Middlesbrough are revelling in the anniversary of a famous win over Manchester City in the Premier League.
Back in 2007/08, Boro and City were competing in a Premier League season that saw them on an even playing field, before the Manchester club’s real millions kicked in and they stormed to title after title.
And, on the final day of the 2007/08 season, Boro really laid it on thick against Sven-Goran Eriksson’s, beating them 8-1 at the Riverside Stadium.
Stewart Downing bagged a brace, Afonso Alves came away with a hat-trick to his name, whilst Adam Johnson, Fabio Rochemback and Jeremie Aliadiere were also on the scoresheet.
For City, Elano scored an impressive long-range effort at 7-0, which prompted the club’s social media team to share footage of the goal, referring to defeat at Boro as a nine-goal thriller.
In response, Boro have sent City’s media team a message asking: “Ruined our clean sheet, why’d you have to post this?”

Of course, since then, Boro have dropped into the Championship and bounced back to the Premier League, but, currently, they are a second-tier side.
In Manchester, though, City are back-to-back Premier League Champions and are coached by Pep Guardiola.
Quiz: Has Britt Assombalonga done these 12 things at Middlesbrough?
It’s always nice to see an exchange like this from two clubs, with City taking things particularly well considering it was such a disappointing day for them.
Of course, there success since then is a big factor as they brush off a humiliating defeat.
Boro’s aim will be to eventually get back to that level of football, even if they never match that score against City.
