It's been a stunning start to the season for Preston North End.

The Lancashire side have picked up an impressive 31 points from their 16 games played so far in the league - a tally which sees them go into the international break in second place in the Championship.

A key part of that success is manager Alex Neil.

The Scotsman has been a revelation since arriving at Deepdale and deserves all of the credit that he's received so far this term.

Neil has also attracted interest from elsewhere, showing that the 38-year-old is clearly doing something right.

But what have we made of the speculation regarding Alex Neil's future?

Tackling today’s six pointer is Phil Spencer…

Why is there so much interest in Alex Neil?

"It's easy to see why Alex Neil's stock is so high.

"After joining Preston in the summer of 2017, the Lilywhites have gone from strength to strength as Neil built an identity that was capable of competing in the Championship.

"Fast-forward two-and-a-half years, and the Scotsman could be on track to do the unthinkable and guide the Lancashire side to the Premier league.

"Add into that his record of getting promoted with Hamilton and Norwich City and you've got a manager who knows what it takes to be a success."

Who has been linked with an interest in him?

"Alex Neil's record with Norwich City and Preston North End means that he's one of the most successful managers in the Championship.

"Therefore it was no surprise when reports surfaced linking the 38-year-old with a move to Stoke City.

"While that move didn't materialise, I'd firmly expect a number of other Championship sides to be keep an eye on the Scotsman as they look to push for promotion to the Premier League."

Would he consider leaving Preston North End?

"If you'd asked me in the summer I'd have certainly said so, but with Preston performing so well, why would he?

"The Lilywhites are in great form in the Championship and look more than able to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

While other clubs may have bigger budgets, he'd be foolish to pass up the opportunity to finish what he's started at Deepdale."

What is Preston North End's stance on the matter?

"It goes without saying that Preston would not want to lose Alex Neil.

"The job that he's done over the last two-and-a-half years is incredible against sides with much deeper pockets, and for that the Scotsman is almost irreplaceable.

"Of course if Alex Neil expressed a desire to leave then they may have to consider their stance, but otherwise it's safe to say that the 38-year-old is not available."

Does Alex Neil have the credentials to secure promotion with Preston?

"There's few managers in the Championship with a record even close to Alex Neil.

"As well as getting promoted to the Scottish Premier League with Hamilton, Neil also secured promotion with Norwich City as they defeated Middlesbrough in the play-off final in 2015.

"Neil has been there and done it, so Preston will feel confident that the team is in the right hands if they're to finish the job that they've started."

How do you see the situation playing out?

"Alex Neil is bound to attract plenty of admiring glances over the coming months, and that's testament to the job that he's done at Deepdale.

"Preston are currently looking very strong and look likely to last the distance as they target a place in the Premier League.

"Neil will be hopeful of being the man to take Preston to the promised land, and I can only see that situation changing if that dream does not materialise."
