Wolves should make sure of signing Manchester United cast-off Victor Lindelof. The Swedish defender has struggled to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans in his first season at the club as he made just starts.

Despite this, it is unlikely that Manchester United will want to sell the player just one year after he was signed for £31 million, so a loan move would be the most logical next step.

Mourinho may have questioned his ability, but Nuno Espirito Santo has previously managed the defender at Benfica and knows what he is capable of. Lindelof played a major role in Benfica’s 2016-17 season making 32 appearances. By the end of the season, the Portuguese giants were celebrating a domestic double. This was largely on the back of their stern defence that conceded just 18 times over the course of the 34-game season.

Having the pre-existing link between Nuno and Lindelof gives Wolves a much better chance of securing his signature than that of an equally talented player. Signing Lindelof on loan would give the side a player with serious top-flight quality and experience. While Wolves had the strongest defence in the Championship last season, but being defensively solid in the Premier League is a different kettle of fish.

Investment will be required if Wolves want to be looking up the table. Securing such a talented player on loan would free up reserves for other significant signings and be a major boon to the club.
