West Brom are bracing themselves for the play-offs after a season where they have consistently challenged at the top of the table, despite the sacking of head coach Darren Moore in March.

The Baggies are the second-highest goal scorers in the Championship only behind league leaders Norwich, with West Brom's prolific forward unit helping the Midlands side to net a total of 75 goals this season.

Newcastle loanees Dwight Gayle and Jacob Murphy have both contributed to West Brom's impressive attack after they struggled to make an impact in the North East.

Gayle, who was signed in the summer, has netted 17 goals this season while his teammate Murphy has scored twice in nine games since arriving in January.

However, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has now told Chronicle Live that the duo could still have a role to play at Newcastle in the future.

This creates a dilemma for both players, who have settled in well at The Hawthorns. There are a number of scenarios that could play out here, with the prospect of West Brom replacing Newcastle in the Premier League still a possibility.

But both players will find this talk premature. The pair must only want to make a decision on their future at the end of the season when the fate of both clubs is known.

Gayle has already scored ten more league goals than he scored in the Premier League last season, despite playing nine games less. He is better suited to the Championship so should look to ply his trade in the second tier next season.

Meanwhile, Benitez speaks highly of Murphy and the 24-year-old is the most likely to have a positive future at Newcastle given his young age.

This means the situation differs between the pair despite Benitez discussing them under the same bracket. Benitez recognises Murphy's talent so he could still succeed at Newcastle, whereas Gayle's situation depends on the fate of both clubs.

However, the most likely scenario will see the striker remaining at The Hawthorns.
