A few weeks ago, it looked as though April could be a hugely exciting month for Leeds United.

Top of the Championship with a seven-point gap over the team in third and on a five-game winning streak, the Whites will have been hoping that the (usual) penultimate month of the EFL season would've seen them move ever closer to the promised land – a return to the Premier League after 16 years.

Unfortunately, given the delays to the Championship season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, April is more likely to be a month full of uncertainty.

We already know that there will not be any fixtures before the end of the month but the question of if, when, and how the current campaign will be concluded remains unanswered.

Given their place in the Championship and their 16 years away from the top table of English football, few clubs will be more desperate to ensure the season is properly concluded or hear of concrete plans to do so than Leeds.

Ideas have been bandied ranging from behind closed doors fixtures and to making the season void.

It remains a testing time but the latest UEFA decision looks like a huge boost for Leeds' Premier League hopes.

According to the Independent, UEFA and the collective European leagues are committed to completing the current season and all parties are fully aligned that the campaign must be completed, whenever that is.

The fact that the Champions League and Europa League have been suspended until further notice and that National team games in June have been postponed would indicate that UEFA are ready to push the 2019/20 season further back into the summer.

This all looks like really positive news for the Whites and a huge boost to their promotion hopes.

There have been concerns that the season may be voided but it appears UEFA and the collective European leagues share the same stance as Leeds – that the 2019/20 campaign must be concluded.

Finishing the season would put Whites in a commanding position to secure promotion to the Premier League and end their 16-year absence from the top flight.

Nothing is set in stone yet but this looks like massive news for the Yorkshire club.
