West Bromwich Albion shocked the Championship - and beyond – this past weekend when they relieved Darren Moore of his duties.

The now-former Baggies boss had the club in fourth place despite a poor run of form.

Two costly defeats to Leeds United and Sheffield United ultimately cost him his job.

West Brom are some way off the three sides contending for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Many were left dumbfounded at the decision to dismiss a man who had steadied the ship at the Hawthorns after some tumultuous times.

There will be few happy to see the 44-year-old depart the club after a relatively successful period in charge.

But one member of the team who will surely be ecstatic to see the back of Moore is James Morrison.

The 32-year-old has been a bit-part player for the Baggies this term, managing just nine starts in 37 games – appearing off the bench eight times as well.

It has left the winger with just 838 minutes to his name – hardly having had a sustained run in the side.

Moore had his system and the players he preferred to use in those particular roles.

Morrison was not one of those – try as he might opportunities were hard to come by.

The West Brom stalwart will know his place in the side is not a given, but having not been afforded many opportunities to help the team, he will be thankful Moore is no longer at the club.

Under a caretaker, or a new permanent boss, he could well be in favour once again – but there is always a risk he could be shelved once more in favour of other options.

Nevertheless, now is the time for Morrison to get down to hard work and use the spring in his step to good effect and look channel that positive energy into the perfect training performances in order to regain his place in the side.

He may see it as a now or never moment – and now Moore has gone he will never want to be left out for long periods again.
