QPR manager Mark Warburton is interested in linking up with Swansea City winger Barrie McKay for a third time, according to the Daily Record (July 3, 8:38am).

The new R's boss worked with McKay in his previous roles at both Rangers and Nottingham Forest, and he is now reportedly keen on luring the 24-year-old to West London.

Warburton has already signed three of his former Ibrox men for his new club with Lee Wallace, Dom Ball and Liam Kelly all joining QPR already this summer.

McKay arrived at Swansea from Forest last summer, and he was involved in 10 goals during his 31 appearances for the South Wales side. However, the 24-year-old had something of an indifferent season in truth.

He showed flashes of his qualities, but he has failed to truly make his mark at the club with the form of Daniel James, Wayne Routledge and Bersant Celina limiting McKay's appearances for the Swans.

This means that the prospect of joining forces with Warburton is likely to interest the player once again, seeing as he enjoyed successful runs in the side under the 56-year-old at his previous clubs.

The Scotland international knows he needs a prolonged run in the side in order to demonstrate his strengths, and Warburton would provide this as he knows what McKay is capable of when he finds consistency in his game.

But the player should not rush into making any decisions just yet. It has been another summer of change at Swansea with former boss Graham Potter joining Brighton, and the Swans replacing him with ex-England Under 17s boss Steve Cooper.

This could create a clean slate for McKay next season, and he now has an opportunity to prove himself to the new head coach and can start working towards featuring more regularly for the club next term.

The sale of Daniel James to Manchester United is also likely to aid McKay's chances, as the Welshman's electric form on the wing was a key contributing factor to McKay's absence from the side.

Therefore, McKay should be looking to bide his time ahead of deciding on his next move. It is important he makes a strong start to pre-season under Cooper at Swansea, where he can assess whether he is likely to feature in the new boss' plans.

However, it is possible McKay will be surplus to Cooper's requirements, as he will surely want to make some of his own signings to fill the club's attacking roles. In this case, McKay should be looking to cut short his three-year contract and engineer a move to Warburton's side.

With there still being over a month left of the transfer window, both player and club have time to make an informed decision.
