Desolate, disturbing and downright alarming would be the phrases that most people would associate with Celtic's current situation under Neil Lennon, with the Hoops having suffered damaging defeats to the likes of Sparta Prague and Ross County in recent days.

The reigning Scottish champions aren't used to being on the end of such poor results and for that matter it is unsurprising to see the weight of the world being placed on the shoulders of their former player who now sits in the managerial hot seat.

As angry fans descended on the outskirts of Celtic Park, many people were asking what's next? And who can the club turn to in order for us to get out of this mess?

The answer may in the form of just one man - with Celtic having been strongly linked with one of the Football League's brightest performers this term in the shape of Peterborough United forward Siriki Dembele.

Dembele, who happens to be the brother of Celtic wonderkid Karamoko, has lit up much of the League One season so far for the Posh, lending a hand in 10 goals across all competitions for Duncan Ferguson's side.

He fits the bill for the type of shadow striker that Celtic are in desperate need of in order to take some of the pressure off the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti, with both players having only notched just five goals this term.

Dembele's ability to drift into wide areas should allow the likes of Edouard, Tomas Rogic and Ryan Christie to be afforded a lot more room to create chances than they have been afforded recently in games, with the Hoops putting in some somewhat frustrated showings against teams that defend with two low blocks this season.

The signing of Dembele would give Celtic more of a threat in behind, whilst also offering a versatility that has been lacking of late in the current squad - with Lennon often having to change formation in order adapt to the absence of key players.

With his contract at Peterborough now into it's final year, Celtic would realistically be able to acquire the tricky forward for a knock down price, particularly with the pandemic having wrecked havoc on the finances of many of the EFL clubs in recent months, meaning that Posh could look to cash in come January.

Sometimes it can be that one new addition who can turn things around and make all the difference and for that reason Celtic would be stupid to not take a punt on Dembele if his sparkling form continues.
