A possible revival could be on the cards for lowly Reading after stringing two excellent wins against Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

The Royals have struggled heavily following last season's play-off final defeat against Huddersfield Town, and only had three wins coming into last week, but have changed their style and benefited from it.

Last year's possession heavy, passing play appears to be out of the window with a far more direct, fast, counter attacking style of play that has seen them gain results against Forest and Derby.

It has seriously unlocked the ability of fast, tricky players such as Modou Barrow, John Swift and Sone Aluko, who have all played key parts in both of Reading's wins last week.

They missed out on a striker in the summer, and will undoubtedly be hoping to catch one in January. They may be lucky that there is currently a mass exodus occurring at Aston Villa.

Scott Hogan is seemingly on the transfer list at Villa Park not even a year after he was signed by Steve Bruce.

He would suit this new Reading system down to the ground.

He's quick, powerful and strong, and showed an excellent eye for goal during the end of his career at Brentford.

It looks as though he needs a bit of a confidence boost in order to get back amongst the goals, but with players either side of him and behind of him beginning to hit form, such as Barrow, Aluko and Swift, a move would make plenty of sense.

Jaap Stam eyed up Hogan last January and now is an excellent opportunity to snap him up at a snip of the price.
