Charlton Athletic face Burton Albion at The Valley tonight, hoping to strengthen their position in the League One play-off places.

Lee Bowyer's side currently occupy fifth place in the table, sitting eight points ahead of Peterborough in seventh with ten games of the regular season remaining.

Addicks fans will no doubt take confidence from their sides' impressive performance in the 2-1 win over fourth-placed Portsmouth at the weekend and they should be delighted with striker Lyle Taylor's return to the goals.

The 28-year-old scored the winner in the big game on Saturday, his first in five games, when he tucked the ball home from close range early in the second half.

Perhaps more importantly, it was his first goal for Charlton since highly-rated striker Karlan Grant left for Premier League Huddersfield in the January transfer window.

Grant was a key player for Charlton this season and is still their top scorer in League One with 14 goals. The 21-year-old had also developed a formidable strike partnership with Taylor.

His departure placed a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Taylor, who is now the only player in the Charlton side to have reached double figures in goals this season.

He would have been delighted to end his goal scoring drought against Pompey at the weekend then and will hope that scoring the winner in such a crucial game can act as much-needed confidence boost for the striker.

Charlton fans will also be hoping it can inspire a return to form for the player, as he will no doubt play a key role as the Addicks look to cement their position in the play-offs, starting with tonight's game against Burton.

It will also give them confidence as there is now a good chance that their side will meet Portsmouth again in the play-offs come the end of the season.
