Swansea City made a statement of intent in the January window as they fended off competition from their Championship rivals to seal the loan signings of Rhian Brewster, Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi.

The Swans even surprised their own supporters by sealing moves for these three bright talents - with Brewster joining from Liverpool and Gallagher and Guehi arriving from Chelsea - and this exciting trio have all featured heavily since their arrivals.

However, the addition of these three talents has so far not had the desired positive impact on Swansea's results, with the Liberty Stadium outfit having only managed to seal one victory since the first of these players arrived in SA1.

The presence of Steve Cooper would have played a key role in all three of these players agreeing to join the Welsh club, but the Swans boss has not yet been able to devise a formula capable of seeing his side win a game with these three in the side.

Cooper understandably wasted no time before thrusting both Brewster and Gallagher into the starting line-up to bolster the attacking ranks, while Guehi has now started all of Swansea's last five matches after slotting into the defensive set-up.

However, while Brewster and Gallagher have both shown clear glimpses of their obvious quality so far, it would be fair to say that Guehi has not particularly shone in any of his outings with Swansea having drawn three and lost two of these matches.

Guehi's continued inclusion has also come at the expense of Swansea academy product Ben Cabango who was showing excellent signs of progress, while Ben Wilmot has also seen limited playing time following Joe Rodon's return.

Cabango and Wilmot had been forming a sound defensive partnership in and around the festive period, and this makes it even more peculiar that Cooper has decided to break up this duo in order to fit Guehi into the starting line-up.

Wilmot did return to the side for the first time in four matches during the 4-4 draw with Hull on Friday night, but it seems highly possible that Cooper will reverse this decision when Rodon is back fully fit for the Huddersfield clash next week.

However, Cooper should seriously consider giving Guehi a break from the side given he has endured a difficult start to his Swansea career, and it should be Wilmot or Cabango starting alongside Rodon for the meeting with the Terriers.

There is no reason why Guehi cannot go on to enjoy a successful 18-month stint at the Liberty Stadium, but the last sequence of matches suggest he should be phased rather than thrusted into the first-team fold between now and the end of the season.
