A new manager normally gives a club a 'bounce' if you will, a fresh start and new hope. Wednesday fans should be feeling this after Sunday's win.

The Owls, under new manager Monk got off to the perfect start beating Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town away from home and could be starting to build a push up the division.

A difficult start to the season, largely due to off the field uncertainty surrounding the manager situation and an inconsistent start on the pitch has them in ninth in the Championship.

Now however, the ship has been stabilised by the appointment of Gary Monk who has 'been there and done it' in this division and will be hoping to use that experience during his time at Hillsborough.

Monk's form at previous clubs Leeds, Middlesbrough and Birmingham was inconsistent and depending if you're glass half full or half empty fans may differ on opinion but being judged on results in the now is what matters and Monk has a 100% record.

Monk, formerly a defender in his playing career does put emphasis on the defensive solidity of his teams, generally Monk will make his side tough to beat. He will build a team that fans can be proud of and will connect with. Something that has potentially been missing at Wednesday for a while.

The squad Monk has at his disposal is strong at this level. The likes of Barry Bannan, Steven Fletcher and Keiren Westwood who have all played a large part of their respective careers in the Premier League offer real strength.

With attacker Fernando Forestieri currently obliging to a six-game ban fans will be eagerly awaiting his return. Although the current squad available have to minimise the importance of his loss.

Over recent seasons it has been difficult to judge what Sheffield Wednesday will do, whether they'll be fighting for a place in the play-offs or even a place in the automatic spots or if they will go out with a whimper and finish mid-table.

Under Monk, with a demanding fan base and a strong squad the aim has to be play-offs. An aim which is definitely achievable this season as the league looks as open as ever.

Escaping key injuries and getting a form of consistency in this division are absolutely key to success, naturally injuries can't be controlled but building consistency and being tough to beat are things you can, things Monk can and has done at Leeds.

Already, seven games into the Championship season there has been twists and turns, it'll continue to be intriguing. Wednesday host an out of sorts Fulham who haven't started quite how they were expected.

If Monk can claim back to back wins from two tough fixtures it'll leave fans dreaming, there's no harm in that.
