Reading have had a rather inconsistent start to the season, and find themselves just outside the relegation zone after four games of the new campaign.

It's been a really interesting time at the club, with a lot of change over the past year. The change doesn't seem to stop for the Royals, as they replaced Jose Gomes with Mark Bowen just two weeks ago.

The Welshman has managed to change results around though, as Reading have picked up four points from his first two games in charge.

One man who'll be looking to impress the new boss will be Tom McIntyre. The youngster is eager to continue his development and push for first-team starts having played a vital role in the side earlier on in the season.

The new five defender system means that the Royals play with three centre-halves and that boosts McIntyre's chances of getting a few more starts for Reading throughout the season.

He's featured four times in the league so far this season, but will be hoping to gradually make the step up as he looks to cement himself in the squad for the coming years.

At just 20-years-old he still has so much development time ahead of him, although one thing the centre-back has never done is gone out on loan. He has always spent his time in the Reading youth sides.

This is something that the centre-back may need in order to boost his physicality and come of age, then with that confidence from a loan spell he can come back and improve the first-team. He is destined to have a long, joyous career at Reading, especially as he's a fan of the club, but he has to start more games in order to continue his development.

In January, the Royals should seriously look for a League One side who could guarantee the defender starts. A team such as Wycombe, Peterborough or Ipswich would be perfect for the youngster and could give him the experience that he needs before cementing a place as a regular in the Reading lineup.

He definitely has a bright career ahead of him, but he must find a way to keep getting playing time.
