Reading are just one point and one place above the relegation zone as we approach the final eight games of the season.

Therefore, it's going to be a very nervy few months for Royals fans even though new boss Jose Gomes has brought a bit of optimism and belief back to the club.

However, he wasn't helped by influential striker Nelson Oliveira picking up a hamstring injury that many feared would mean he missed the rest of the season.

But Sky Sports have revealed that the Portuguese number nine is expected to be involved in the final three games of the campaign.

And whilst that means they will still have to cope without the on-loan Norwich man for a significant spell you can't underestimate how important his return will be.

Oliveira has three goals in six games since arriving at the Madejski Stadium and is the natural goalscorer that the side are lacking.

Under Gomes they have played some decent football but they often lack that ruthless edge in the final third which the 27-year-old provides.

It can also have a knock-on effect on the whole side as they will feel much more confident heading into games knowing that Oliveira may only need one chance to make a decisive contribution.

There's sure to be many twists and turns in the coming weeks as the battle to avoid relegation heats up and Oliveira returning with a few games to go could be the ace in the pack to ensure Reading remain in the Championship.
