The 2016/17 season is finally over and two of the standout midfielders in the Sky Bet Championship last season happened to be Australians.

This time last year, not many Championship fans would have heard of Aaron Mooy or Jackson Irvine.

Burton Albion snapped up Jackson Irvine and the 24-year-old hit double figures from midfield, helping the Brewers to an unlikely survival in the second tier.

Aaron Mooy joined Huddersfield Town on loan from Manchester City and his talent was evident for all to see.

The 26-year-old dictated play in the middle of the park, earned a place in the EFL Championship Team of the Year and guided Huddersfield Town to the Premier League for the first team.

So perhaps Australian is the way to go.

Queens Park Rangers should take a similar punt for next year and add Anthony Caceres to their squad, either on loan or permanently.

The 24-year-old is also at Manchester City (like Mooy) and he has been on loan at Melbourne City this season.

Anthony Caceres is unlikely to break into Manchester City's first team due to the big money talent they have in their ranks.

A loan spell to the Championship could help his career just as it has done for Jackson Irvine and Aaron Mooy.

If he impresses in the second tier, a number of Premier League teams would be interested in snapping him up.

QPR is the perfect environment for the attacking midfielder to develop because the West London outfit are looking for some flair and an attacking spark going forward.
