Optimism surrounding Nottingham Forest? Surely not.
Fans are on a high following Championship survival, and need to do a lot of work on the squad this summer.
The Reds cruised to a brilliant 3-0 win over Ipswich Town on Sunday to stave off relegation and secure their status as a Championship side.
The nature of their win has caused enormous optimism amongst fans who are now dreaming of greater things next season under Mark Warburton, but regardless of Sunday’s events at the City Ground, the club face a huge summer.
If you ask any Championship fan what is wrong with Forest, they’ll point a finger squarely at their back line.
Only Rotherham conceded more times than Forest this season, that is the level they are at.
A resolution to this issue could start with the signing of Tomas Kalas from Chelsea, who has starred Fulham’s dash for the play-offs this season.
The Czech faces Reading this weekend in a play off semi-final, and Fulham’s promotion could greatly harm any attempt for Forest to nab him, as the Cottagers will have greater resources to bring him in.
Regardless of whether Fulham go up, however, Chelsea will almost certainly allow him to leave on a permanent basis this summer (even signing him on loan would be good) as Kalas turns 24 this month and is beyond being dubbed a ‘wonderkid’.
Forest need to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer and Kalas will be as good as they’re going to get. Pulling off this deal could be a major part of them moving away from relegation and perhaps into play off contention.
Forest fans… Do you agree with this? Is Kalas a realistic target? Let us know in the comments below!
