It promises to be a very busy end to the window for Nottingham Forest if recent comments from boss Sabri Lamouchi are anything to go by.

The former Rennes boss has only been in charge for a few weeks but it appears to have been enough time for him to assess the current squad.

That’s because Lamouchi stressed to Nottinghamshire Live that reinforcements are needed ‘in every line’, meaning defence, midfield and attack.

Whilst that may seem a bit much to a Forest squad that is already bloated and does have a lot of proven players at this level, the fans should be pleased to see the new manager is ready to be ruthless.

For him to come in and effectively demand a new spine to the team is a big ask but it’s the necessary step at the City Ground. It also suggests that he has a plan in place and wants players who will fit his philosophy.

And, that hasn’t been the case in the past, with Forest a club seemingly confused in the direction they were heading.

Firstly, the transfer strategy has been very questionable, with the influx of Portuguese talent 12 months ago a change from the previous approach.

Yet, Evangelos Marinakis then decided to sack Aitor Karanka and bring in Martin O’Neill, someone who had a completely different view on the game and an old-school coach who looked reluctant to play some of the foreign signings.

Quite simply, there didn’t look to be a plan in place and they were a mess.

There’s no doubt the owner has good intentions but things just haven’t clicked at all and his decision-making has often come across without any long-term thought.

However, Lamouchi could be the man to finally deliver success. He isn’t pretending everything’s great, instead he is identifying weaknesses and strengthening the team.

Even though he didn’t impress on his friendly debut, bringing Aro Muric in from Manchester City was a coup and he should be an upgrade in goal.

Meanwhile, Tiago Silva appears to be the classy, progressive midfield man they were desperate for and will ease the pressure on Joao Carvalho when it comes to providing creativity in the final third.

So, with Lamouchi demanding a few more new faces, it’s now down to the owner to do all he can to deliver the players the manager wants.

He has shown in just a few weeks that he isn’t scared to make big decisions and if a few more of his targets can arrive in the east Midlands then Forest supporters should be optimistic about what the upcoming season will bring - as they finally have a clear plan in place.
