Kieran Dowell was exceptional in Nottingham Forest’s 3-2 victory over Hull City on Saturday, with the on-loan Everton star scoring the three goals that guided Mark Warburton’s side to victory.

The 20-year-old’s performance firmly established him as Forest’s best option in the number 10 role, but where does that leave Zach Clough? The 22-year-old who was brought to the City Ground last January.

Clough has been limited to just 431 minutes of first-team football this season, with Warburton using the former Bolton Wanderers forward sparingly.

That got us thinking whether Bolton, who are struggling at the foot of the Championship table, could make an ambitious move in January, to bring Clough back to the Macron Stadium on-loan.

Here are the thoughts of our writers.

Would be shocked if this happened, but what a signing it'd be!

Clough is struggling to get regular game time at Nottingham Forest due to the amount of competition, so a loan move away would make some sense.

But, Warburton would surely be reluctant to let him leave in January.

Bolton would be very lucky.

Why not?

Whether Clough would want to go instead of fight for his place at Forest remains to be seen but so far he has not really figured in Warburton's plans.

I'd say that if that is still the case in January he is going to have to get out of the City Ground at least temporarily and so why not go to a club he knows?

He'd surely find some confidence there and Bolton might just be able to surmount a survival bid.

Yes they should try, but I can't see them getting far with it.

Clough has a strong affection for the club and is out of favour at the minute with Forest, but I couldn't see Warburton sanctioning a move.

He's the creative player that Bolton crave but there's a long season ahead and he will still make an impression at the City Ground.
