Reading manager Jose Gomes will be hoping he can secure his first win of the season since his appointment, when the Royals entertain managerless Nottingham Forest at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gomes has made a couple of signings in the January transfer window, with Lewis Baker the latest to arrive in the Thames Valley after his parent club Chelsea cut short his loan spell at Leeds, and then allowed him out on loan for the remainder of the season.

So should Jose Gomes select Baker in his starting XI for the Forest match?

We discuss....

Louie Chandler

"Why not?

"The Royals midfield certainly needs a bit more class about it and Baker will certainly have a point to prove after his time at Leeds.

"The current formula has not worked so something needs to change."

Gary Hutchinson

“Yes. What’s he got to lose?

“Reading are in real danger and he has to find some method that breaks that cycle.

“It’s a big ask for Baker and for Reading though. The damage Clement has done might be irreversible.”

Alfie Burns

“Baker has arrived to play football and he’ll be itching to play.

“If he’s had a good couple of days training, I’d start him. He improves the starting XI.

“Players like him gelling with the current crop is going to be key in Reading’s fight for survival, they need it to happen ASAP.”

Jay Taylor

“What harm would it do? They need all the help they can get.

“A few weeks ago, they were out the bottom three, and now they are slowly getting cut adrift with Ipswich.

“And if you are below Bolton at present with all their problems then you know things are bad.

“Baker gives Reading something they have been missing, so putting him in from the off is the only reasonable action to take this weekend.”
