When opportunity knocks, it's important that you answer.

Never has that phrase been more appropriate than with Middlesbrough starlet Tyrone O'Neill after the club recalled him from his loan spell with Darlington.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Quakers after scoring seven goals in 17 appearances in the National League North, but now he has his sights much higher.

Upon leaving the club, Darlington manager and former Middlesbrough striker Alun Armstrong said: "I'm delighted for the lad, hopefully he gets the opportunity to show how much he's come on while he's been with us."

That opportunity could come as early as this weekend.

Middlesbrough are facing something of an injury crisis with the news that nine of their first team players could be unavailable for Saturday's game with Queens Park Rangers.

As a result, attacking options are limited and that presents the ideal opportunity for the striker to prove that he's capable of playing at Championship level.

Britt Assombalonga will no doubt lead the line, but for O'Neill it's an opportunity that he can't let slip.

If the 20-year-old can do enough to convince Jonathan Woodgate to include him in the matchday squad, it could be the ideal opportunity to make his name at his boyhood club.

That means that Tyrone O'Neill faces a potentially career-defining challenge.

Woodgate hinted as much to Middlesbrough's official website, saying: "He’s a young lad and it’s an opportunity for him.

“He’s done well at Darlington. He’s played a lot of football and scored a few goals so it’ll be good to have him back.”

O'Neill will be chomping at the bit to get involved.

After returning from Darlington his confidence will be sky high after his goal scoring exploits, and that means that he'll be fully backing himself to take this opportunity.

The fact that he's being recalled just 48 hours before the clash at Loftus Road can only be a good thing as well, as it gives the striker precious little time to process what is going on - meaning that his mind will be free to focus on what he does best; scoring goals.

Every player in the professional game has got there because they have seized an opportunity, and you can't help but feel that for Tyrone O'Neill, this may be the best chance he'll get to make his name with Middlesbrough.
