Lincoln City secured promotion from League Two with a couple of weeks to spare, giving them ample time to plot for their upcoming campaign in the third tier.

As we enter June, fans have been left in the dark as to what is happening at the club. There has been no talk of players coming in and, yet, Sam Habergham and Matt Gilks haven’t been announced as remaining at Sincil Bank.

Inactivity leads to worried supporters and on social media, one or two or beginning to wonder openly what is happening. Danny Cowley has been linked with West Brom, promising youngster Tim Akinola has left for Huddersfield Town and yet there hasn’t been any good news as such, other than a title win.

Fans need not worry. The management team are notorious for taking their time in the market, assessing their options and not rushing into anything. Two of their best signings in recent seasons have been Neal Eardley and Jason Shackell, both arrived on the eve of the season, with Shackell coming in after the opening game.

Even when they’ve made big signings, such as Michael Bostwick and Harry Anderson, they came as the summer drew on. It isn’t unusual for half a squad to resume pre-season training under Danny and Nicky Cowley.

Even that won’t be the case this season as currently their entire title-winning squad have chosen to remain at the club. Speculation rages on around one or two key players, but as yet there hasn’t been a single player released or walked away of his own accord.

It looks as though Danny Cowley is going to use consistency as much as anything as he hunts success in League One. The impressive young manager has lifted three trophies in as many seasons, an unparalleled period of success in the club’s history.

In those seasons he’s rarely failed to let the club down in the transfer market, he’s never overspent, nor diced with the long-term future for a short-term gain. Instead, he’s plotted and planned, moved when the time is right and stayed silent when it is not.

Lincoln City fans should take solace in that and know from experience that they’re in good hands.
