Why Leeds United need to go all-out to sign clinical Championship ace

Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom will expect to have a busy summer as he looks to build a squad that is capable of challenging for promotion in 12 months’ time.

The Whites had a disastrous second half of the season and ended up finishing in the bottom half, with the first-team squad looking weak in several areas.

One clear position that needs an improvement is up front, with nobody at the club coming close to replacing the goals that Chris Wood had scored over the years.

Heckingbottom has made no secret of his desire to bring in a new striker and one man Leeds have been linked with is Abel Hernandez.

The Uruguay international is out of contract in the summer and as our graphic shows, he would be a super signing for the Yorkshire outfit.

Despite a ruptured Achilles restricting the 27-year old to 10 appearances this season, he still managed eight goals. What’s most impressive about that is the majority came after he returned from the setback.

That highlights how he hasn’t really been impacted by the injury and is still a major goal threat.

It’s not all about the goals either with Hernandez. He has a great physical presence and can link up play with his technique and composure on the ball.

Leeds are desperate for a new number nine to lead a promotion push and picking up Hernandez on a free could transform this side.
