Given their history and infamous reputation (deserved or undeserved), it is an event for most clubs when Leeds United come to town.

It was no different at Kenilworth Road last weekend, as Luton Town's meeting with the Whites was played in front of a sell-out crowd.

Graeme Jones' men will no doubt have been keen to test themselves against one of the top sides in the Championship but none of his players will have been as determined to impress than Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown.

The 22-year-old joined the Hatters in the summer and has found some sparkling form in the early part of the season–leading his side in assists with six and grabbing his first goal against Charlton Athletic last night.

He looked up for it on Saturday–making three progressive runs, providing four shot assists (Wyscout), and serving as one of Luton's major threats, particularly on the break.

None more so than when he got the better of Kalvin Phillips in a duel, something few players have done this season, drifted free of his defender and then picked out James Collins at the back post for the equaliser–just minutes after Patrick Bamford opened the scoring for the Whites.

Looking back on a game in which they secured three points, Leeds fans may have been impressed by Brown but the overarching feeling they will likely have held towards him is frustration.

The Chelsea loanee spent last season at Elland Road but missed much of the campaign due to injury issues and then struggled to make any real impact once he had returned.

Brown made just two appearances for the Whites–playing a total of 23 minutes, making just two passes and receiving only three, having one shot, and taking two touches in the opposition box–according to Wyscout.

As most clubs do, Leeds have had their successes and disappointments in the loan market but unfortunately through no real fault of his own, Brown falls into the latter category.

The dynamism, creativity, and energy that he showed at Kenilworth Road on the weekend was something that Leeds could really have used during their late-season slump in the 2018/19 campaign.

Brown was unable to provide it and Leeds were unable to end their 15-year absence from the Premier League. The Whites remain in the Championship and their fans continue to watch the midfielder and wonder what might have been.
