Barry Bannan has been playing some of the best football of his career this season under Jos Luhukay.

The Sheffield Wednesday star has been one of the players of the season so far in the Championship, but despite this, the gifted midfielder continues to be overlooked by Scotland.

Alex McLeish, who is in charge of the national team, has lost six of his first eight games in his second spell in charge of Scotland, and he has hardly gave Barry Bannan a second look.

The Wednesday midfielder has 27 caps for Scotland but is overlooked for one reason or another – it is tough to see why.

Kevin McDonald, John McGinn and Stuart Armstrong are all preferred to him. McDonald and Armstrong are Premier League players which may mean McLeish sees them as better by default, but Bannan has looked excellent and should really get a chance.

So far this season, Bannan has been one of Wednesday’s best performers that has seen them climb the table.

Jos Luhukay’s men sit 6th in the table going into match-day thirteen, and have their eyes firmly set on a playoff spot come the end of the season.

The little Scotsman has been instrumental to Wednesday’s rise and will be hoping he can play a senior role as the Owls look to beat Middlesbrough at home on Friday night.

He has a fantastic range of passing, and is taking a leadership role as he enters the peak years of his career in a relatively young side.

If Bannan keeps playing at this level, surely Alex McLeish can't continue to ignore him.
