Hull City suffered their first defeat under new boss Leonid Slutsky on Tuesday after going down 3-2 to Wolves at the KCOM Stadium.

The Tigers drew 1-1 at Aston Villa in the former CSKA Moscow and Russia coach’s first game in charge, before securing their first win of the campaign against Burton Albion last weekend, overcoming the Brewers 4-1 at the KCOM Stadium.

However, they were unable to keep their fine start to the season going, with goals from Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, and Nouha Dicko securing the points for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, with strikes from Michael Dawson and David Meyler not enough to preserve the Tigers’ unbeaten start to the campaign.

And yesterday’s loss may have further underlined to Slutsky the need for reinforcements between now and August 31, and one man the North East outfit have been linked with over the summer is Leicester City flop Ahmed Musa.

The 24-year-old moved to the King Power Stadium last summer in what was a club record deal, but managed just four goals for the Foxes last time round, and slowly fell out of favour under Craig Shakespeare.

And that culminated in the Nigeria star failing to even make the bench for the first game of the season at Arsenal last week, and with his future unclear at the Midlands outfit, Slutsky has recently refused to rule out a loan move for the forward.

And it’s a move the Tigers boss must look to get done as his side are in need of attacking reinforcements, and a reunion with a manager under whom he has played his best football may be exactly what Musa needs to resurrect his English football career.

Ultimately, it was the 24-year-old’s form for CSKA Moscow which prompted Leicester to spend £16.6 million on him last summer, with the Nigeria international bagging 54 goals in 168 games for the club, helping them to three domestic league titles.

And his most prolific season came in his last at the club, in which time he scored 13 goals and laid on five assists in 30 league matches, while all of his campaigns came under the stewardship of Slutsky.

Thus, it’s clear that the now-Hull boss knows how to get the best out of Musa, and that could be invaluable in a Tigers side that have seen their attacking options take a hit in the last few days, with Abel Hernandez being stretchered off in their defeat to Wolves on Tuesday.

Although it remains to be seen how long the Uruguay international is out for, there is surely a place for Musa in Slutsky’s forward department ahead of the rest of the season, as if he were to replicate the form he showed under the 46-year-old at CSKA Moscow, Hull would have one of the most lethal forwards in the division.

And with loan signings more likely than permanent ones at the KCOM Stadium over the last few weeks of the window, they must look to strike a deal with Leicester for Musa, as one good season under the familiarity of Slutsky could resurrect his career in English football, at the same time helping Hull challenge for promotion.
