In what has been a phenomenal season for the West Yorkshire side, Huddersfield Town have defied all the odds and silenced all the critics to finish in play-off places.

However, whatever the outcome of the play-offs is, be that promotion to the Premier League or the disappointment of remaining in the Championship, Huddersfield Town must not stand still.

With David Wagner likely to attract attention from across continental Europe including both the Bundesliga and the Premier League, Dean Hoyle's first job is to tie down the German head-coach and offer him the assurances that he will be heavily supported in the transfer market.

After spending last summer re-shaping the side and revamping the defence, David Wagner may feel that he needs to do something similar once again this summer, however, this time with the emphasis placed on revamping the attack.

With Elias Kachunga likely to finish the season as Huddersfield Town's top goalscorer with 11 league goals, it can be seen in both a positive and a negative light.

It could symbolise that Huddersfield Town are not over-reliant on a single source for goals and instead, the goals have been spread evenly across the team.

However, it could also be said that without a single goalscorer scoring over 15 league goals this season, it may be the reason the West Yorkshire side fell short of automatic promotion.

One player who could potentially change Huddersfield Town's fortunes in front of goal is Freiburg striker Nils Petersen, who has been linked with a move to West Yorkshire.

Having fired Freiburg to promotion from the 2. Bundesliga with 21 goals in 32 games, Nils Petersen's fine goalscoring form has carried on into this season.

Having already hit double figures this season once again despite playing in the division above, Petersen has played an integral role in lifting Freiburg to seventh in the Bundesliga table.

With David Wagner likely to address the forward line in the summer, the striker is a reliable goalscorer in Germany's top flight and could be an attractive option for the German head coach.

If Huddersfield Town want to continue to progress and cement their position as a promotion candidate, if they do fall short in the play-offs, the signing of Nils Petersen could go a long way to ensure that Huddersfield Town build on the success they have had this season.
