Gary Rowett has taken over from Paul Lambert at Stoke City and his objective will be clear - to take the side back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

However, he will have to oversee major changes at the Potters this summer, with several big-name players sure to depart the bet365 stadium in the coming months.

The likes of Jack Butland, Joe Allen and Xherdan Shaqiri are three of the main players that seem certain to leave and others will follow.

Whilst that will present Rowett with a challenge as they will have to be suitably replaced, their sales should generate a lot of money which will give the former Derby boss a big budget by Championship standards.

And, he should go back to his former club for Matej Vydra to boost the Potters options in the final third. A lack of goals is the main reason Stoke went down, with the side seriously lacking a natural goalscorer.

The Czech international has proven himself to be very capable in the second tier and was the top scorer in the Championship for the Rams this season under Rowett.

Therefore, he clearly knows how to get the best out of him and Vydra could flourish further if he is surrounded by better players.

Rowett has a strong base to work with at Stoke but any chance of promotion will depend on bringing in quality to score the goals - and he should back Vydra to deliver for him once again.
