After nearly a fortnight of waiting, Nottingham Forest have reportedly lost their appeal to sign West Bromwich Albion's Kamil Grosicki on loan – a frustrating blow but one that could prove a positive.

It is understood that the Reds submitted the paperwork for the move 21 seconds after the deadline for domestic deals on the 16th of October and, according to The Telegraph's John Percy, the move has now fallen through after the East Midlands club lost their appeal following an arbitration hearing this week.

Forest are thought to be very disappointed, which is understandable given Grosicki's record, but it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom for the City Ground outfit.

In 18-year-old Alex Mighten, the Reds have a young forward that looks a very exciting prospect and has shown he is ready to contribute this term.

The hunger and dynamism that the Forest academy product showed in the first few weeks of the season was one of few bright spots for the Championship side during that period and what he needs now is more chances to impress.

Grosicki's arrival would have almost certainly meant that Mighten was pushed further down the pecking order and found opportunities hard to come by.

With the Poland international staying at West Brom, the teenager looks set to be a useful weapon for Hughton moving forward.

He is yet to feature since the new Forest boss took charge earlier this month but has made the bench in all four of the Championship games in that period, which indicates that he is part of his plans.

Are these 12 facts about the Reds’ history genuine or not?

Mighten may not be able to provide the production in the final third that Grosicki has in recent seasons but continued opportunities could be priceless for his development and may mean that it isn't long before he's making a serious impact.

Seeing academy players flourish is one of the great joys of football and with Matty Cash now gone, Mighten looks like a prime candidate to take up his mantel.

It's not as if Hughton is short of quality out wide either, with the likes of Anthony Knockaert, Joe Lolley, and Sammy Ameobi in the squad.

Given the circumstances of the failed transfer and Grosicki's Championship record, this update is, without doubt, a blow for Forest but as long as Mighten is managed and coached well as the season wears on you feel it could prove positive in the long run.
