Even though they showed real battling qualities to earn a point against Preston on Friday, Frank Lampard will have been concerned with how his Derby County side performed.

The Rams were under serious pressure, particularly in the second half, and relied on a combination of good last-ditch defending and goalkeeping, along with wasteful finishing from the hosts to keep a clean sheet.

Going forward, they offered next to nothing, with two excellent long-range strikes from Harry Wilson the only real chances they had.

The lack of build-up and combination play was alarming, with Craig Bryson and George Evans not having an impact on the game.

Therefore, Lampard must turn to the experienced Tom Huddlestone to get his side playing again.

Whilst the ex-Spurs man isn't the most mobile, he is technically outstanding and his presence would help the attacking players around him.

Wilson, probably Derby's best player, was regularly forced to drop deep at Deepdale because Bryson and Evans couldn't give him the service he needs.

With Huddlestone in the side, that wouldn't be a problem. He can play the quick, incisive passes that the likes Wilson, Tom Lawrence and Mason Mount need, to ensure they pick the ball up in dangerous positions.

That wasn't the case on Friday and it meant they were pinned back for large parts of the second half.

The obvious concern is that the 32-year-old wouldn't provide the same defensive protection as the midfield alternatives but Lampard needs to be thinking about his side from an attacking sense. It's a risk worth taking.

They have so much quality in the final third and some excellent individuals but they can struggle to break teams down.

Bringing Huddlestone back in would give those attacking players an ideal platform and his ability on the ball should help the Rams dominate games as they look to get back into the play-offs.
