Eight new signings walked through the entrance doors of The City Ground this summer in what has been described as one of the best transfer windows for the club in years.

Forest boss Mark Warburton and Director of Football Frank McParland have worked their magic this summer by quickly assembling a talented squad packed full of depth, experience, youth and leadership.

The likes of Barrie McKay, Andreas Bouchalakis, Tendayi Darikwa, Kieran Dowell and Jason Cummings are just a few of the new signings who have quickly impressed The City Ground faithful already this season.

Unsurprisingly, The Reds were linked with a number of players in the summer but both Warburton and McParland remained committed to keeping their squad numbers low.

It remains to be seen whether Forest will go back in for some of these players when the transfer window re-opens in January, but here are two players they should have signed in the summer...

John McGinn

The Scotland international and Hibernian midfielder came close to joining The Reds in the last few days of the window with Mark Warburton keen to add to his midfield.

The former Rangers boss already raided Hibernian for the services of Jason Cummings but The Reds could not agree on a fee for the 22-year-old.

Forest may well go back in for McGinn in January with Warburton and McParland thought to be very big admirers of the Hibernian midfielder.

McGinn would certainly add some flair and energy to an already talented Nottingham Forest midfield and Forest fans will be hoping they can secure a deal for him eventually.

Kevin McDonald

The Fulham midfielder is another player who the Reds came close to signing earlier on in the window and Forest fans were disappointed that the club could not complete the deal.

McDonald was one of the strongest midfielders in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

Nonetheless, the price tag slapped on him proved too expensive for Forest who moved on to different targets such as Liam Bridcutt.

It remains to be seen whether a move for McDonald could materialise once again in January but there can be no doubts that the Fulham midfielder would add the sort of quality that could turn the East Midlands club into real promotion contenders.
