Newcastle United fans were not pleased when the January transfer window slammed shut at 11pm last Tuesday without the club signing a single player.

Newcastle's form has been a bit patchy lately and the fans were hoping that at least one big name signing could give their squad the lift that it needs.

Their lack of success in the transfer window already had Magpies' fans in negative spirits and that was worsened still when they slipped to a 2-2 draw at home to Queens Park Rangers.

Ciaran Clark's loopy header resulted in a 90th minute own goal to prevent Newcastle from taking all three points and going back to the top of the Championship table.

Newcastle have a large squad and Benitez could have done with trimming some of the fringe players to fund some moves for the likes of Andros Townsend or Mo Barrow.

Here are 2 players he should have sold.

Cheick Tiote

Newcastle just can't get rid of Cheick Tiote.

For the third consecutive window, they have tried to offload the Ivorian defensive midfielder and failed.

The 30-year-old wants to leave too but it seems as if wage demands are preventing his exit.

Haris Vuckic

Newcastle recalled forward Haris Vuckic from Bradford City but they didn't send him out on loan again or sell him.

The 24-year-old is nowhere near the first team picture at Newcastle and should be allowed to move on.

The once-capped Slovenian international needed to leave St James' Park for his own sake.
