It's been a tough start to the season for Birmingham City who have already changed manager and saw a host of new arrivals come to the club in the summer.

Some caught the attention, with the likes of David Stockdale joining from Brighton and Jota from Brentford, but it might be a signing from Luton Town that proves to be one of the best.

Isaac Vassell joined Blues from the Hatters in mid-August and whilst injuries have prevented a consistent run in the team, he has already shown his quality.

Fans were impressed with Vassell's contributions from the bench under Harry Redknapp and he continued that for Lee Carsley, notching a vital winner against Sheffield Wednesday last week.

He joined for an undisclosed fee but only had a year left on his contract at Kenilworth Road and it was surprising Blues didn't face more competition for his signature.

Simon Grayson is working on a strict budget at Sunderland and Vassell would've been ideal for the North-East club.

He is raw, hungry and has something to prove at a higher level, qualities that Grayson needs to bring to Sunderland after years of abject failure.

They needed to change their recruitment strategy and the 24-year old would've been the perfect player to signify a new approach.

The fans have suffered for years, but would respond and support a team full of younger players with a desire to play for the badge.

As well as that, Sunderland are light up front.

James Vaughan is the only recognised striker with Lewis Grabban out injured and Duncan Watmore is returning from a long lay-off.

Whilst they have concerns over all areas of the pitch, Vassell would've been a cheap way to add depth, quality and speed to the attack.
