In what has been an extremely competitive and exciting Sky Bet League Two season, Portsmouth have stood out as one of the best sides in the division as they currently sit in the third and final automatic promotion spot.

One of the main reasons for Portsmouth's success this season has been the high quality of recruitment which has improved the calibre of players in Portsmouth's squad.

The flurry of transfer activity has seen a number of incomings and outgoings over the course of the past two transfer windows.

Paul Cook has done well to manage Portsmouth through these busy transfer windows whilst at the same time, under Cook's management, Portsmouth have built a squad capable of competing at the very top of League Two.

There may be regrets about some of Portsmouth's transfer activity as it has seen players go on to thrive for their new club.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at TWO players who have really thrived after leaving Portsmouth....

Adam Webster

After emerging from Portsmouth's academy, Adam Webster was instantly recognised as one of the brightest young talents in Portsmouth's ranks.

In the summer transfer window, Ipswich Town won the race to acquire the 22-year-old defender's signature amongst competition from their Championship rivals.

Adam Webster's talent and bright future has already been recognised internationally as he has featured for England's Under 19 side on five occasions.

Adam Webster's impressive performances for Ipswich Town in the first half of the season attracted the attention of the Premier League.

Although Adam Webster is currently sidelined due to a severe injury, the young central defender has really thrived at the Championship level after leaving Portsmouth.

Danny Hollands

One of Portsmouth's most astute signings in recent years has been the signing of veteran midfielder Danny Hollands on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic in August 2014.

After spending two seasons at Portsmouth, the 31-year-old midfielder joined League Two side, Crewe Alexandra, last summer.

The move came somewhat as a surprise considering that Hollands had been ever-present in the heart of Portsmouth's midfield over the past two seasons making over 90 appearances for the South coast giants.

Since making the move to Crewe Alexandra, the veteran midfielder has made over twenty-five appearances for the league 2 strugglers this season.

Although Crewe Alexandra has struggled this season, individually, Danny Hollands has put in a number of excellent performances as he has thrived since leaving Portsmouth.
