It seems as though Derby County will be on the lookout for a new manager once again as current boss Frank Lampard closes in on his dream job with Chelsea.

That will be a process that owner Mel Morris has become used to given the sackings he has made over the years but this time it won't be down to him.

In fact, the owner may actually take pride from the fact that a Champions League club are showing an interest in the Rams boss as it shows he made the right decision to give Lampard his first taste of management 12 months ago.

And, that can signal the approach Derby need to take moving forward, which is why fans will welcome the news that John Terry is a potential target to replace his former Blues teammate at Pride Park.

Like Lampard, the ex-England skipper would be embarking on his first top job, although he has more experience as he is currently number two at Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, he would still bring a new energy and fresh ideas which will excite those on the terraces, whilst his reputation as a player will ensure he immediately commands respect in the dressing room.

Derby have been stuck in the second-tier for far too long now and the route of going for supposedly proven managers and big-money signings didn't work.

All it has done is leave the club in a tricky financial situation and extended their stay outside the Premier League with fans fed up at how the club seem stuck in this cycle.

Yet, Lampard changed that.

By turning to youth and playing high energy football, the fans saw a group of players that gave their all and wanted to be at the club.

They had a manager in charge who knew he had to succeed as he strives to get to the top, unlike others who you may feel are just seeking another pay day on the managerial merry-go-round.

Of course, we don't know how Terry will do or his philosophy and tactical approach, but we do know he will have the same hunger and determination to impress - like his good friend.

So, if the 38-year-old does take over, instead of worrying about a lack of experience, Derby fans will just be prepared for another exciting journey that could see them go one step further than last season.
