Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor has taken to Instagram to reveal he has taken a step forward in his recovery from an injury which has ruled him out of Charlton's last five matches.

The 29-year-old suffered a knee injury in early September which disrupted his impressive start to life in the Championship which saw him find the target five times in Charlton's opening six league matches.

Taylor was a key figure during Charlton's promotion from League One last term as he scored 25 goals in 45 appearances to help Lee Bowyer's side towards their play-off final success, and he has continued in the same vein of form this term.

The Addicks have suffered a dip in results during Taylor's absence as they have won just once in their last five matches, but the striker has now shared an update on his Instagram account to suggest he could be nearing a return.

Taylor posted a video which reveals he is no longer in crutches and is able to walk freely on a treadmill, with this being accompanied with the caption 'soon' to suggest he is getting closer to his comeback.

There can be no doubt that Taylor's return from injury would be a huge boost for the Addicks who have suffered a subtle drop in form without the striker's services, even though Macauley Bonne is proving to be an able deputy.

The former Leyton Orient man has now scored two goals since joining Charlton in the summer, with both of these efforts holding huge significance as they came during the 1-0 win over Leeds and the 2-2 draw with Fulham.

It is clear that Bonne is now starting to fill Taylor's void adequately after getting used to life in the Championship, but this will surely not stop Taylor from regaining his talismanic role in the side when he is back to full fitness.

It will also be interesting to see whether Taylor and Bonne can establish a striker partnership together, as this must now be an exciting prospect for Charlton fans given that Bonne is appearing to look settled in the second tier.

Taylor has established himself as a firm fans' favourite at The Valley since his move from Wimbledon last summer, and his return from injury in the coming weeks is surely set to give the club a huge lift.

The Addicks now have a tough run of fixtures coming up after the international break, so getting Taylor fit and firing again must be one of the club's key priorities.
