Given all the turmoil surrounding the club off the field, it’s fair to say that Birmingham City have enjoyed a fine campaign.

They were surprisingly pushing for the play-offs for much of the season and even after a nine-point deduction in March they didn’t have to seriously worry about relegation for too long.

However, there’s often a price for success and it seems inevitable that top scorer and key player Che Adams will depart in the summer.

Whilst losing the former Sheffield United man would be a blow, Blues supporters will be more worried by reports in the Mail that suggested West Brom had made Garry Monk a leading candidate to take over once their season is over.

Yet, the Birmingham boss emphatically dismissed that speculation when speaking to the Express & Star, revealing that his focus is all on moving forward with his current club.

Even though that’s the sort of message you’d expect Monk to send, the reality is that he has a real bond with Blues fans and there is a feeling of optimism about what the future can bring.

Monk has brought pride and fight back to the club and if he is given the chance to bring some more players in during the next window, they could target the top six again.

The chance to join the Baggies may appeal, particularly if they were promoted, but Monk knows he is on to something good at St. Andrew’s and he clearly sees potential and hope for the future.

So, whilst Blues fans may be nervous at West Brom’s apparent interest, they will be relieved after Monk’s comments and can actually look forward to what the future may bring after a turbulent year.
