Birmingham's win away at Bolton Wanderers last night was there seventh win out of 12 league outings, and Gary Rowett's achievements so far at the club shouldn't go unrecognised.

Firstly, when you consider the limited financial resources Rowett has at the Blues, it makes their current league position all the more impressive.

This summer, Birmingham spent a mere total of around £600,000 on players, and made great use of the free transfer market.

Their most notable free transfers were the signing of experienced former Man United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, and tricky winger Jacques Maghoma.

It speaks volumes about Rowett's ability when league rivals Middlesbrough were able to splash out millions of pounds for Stewart Downing, and Sean Dyche plenty on Andre Gray to enhance his Burnley side, and his Birmingham outfit are still able to compete at the top of the Championship.

As well as recruiting wisely, Gary Rowett has got the best out of the players who were already present upon his arrival at St Andrew's in October last year.

He has managed to get striker Clayton Donaldson, who has scored four goals in 12 league games, playing consistently well, whilst he has also nurtured young winger Demarai Gray into an exciting talent.

Rowett and Birmingham will be looking to continue their early season form and mount a real charge to get back to the Premier League.

The main worry for Birmingham could be keeping Gary Rowett, as it's likely Premier League club's will come calling for the ex-Burton boss if he carries on in the same vein.
