The tussle between Championship clubs this summer is fully in fruition as they prepare to beat their rivals to player recruitment and outdo them in the league next season.

Two teams who are favourites to be up amongst the promotion chasers are Aston Villa and Leeds United, who have recently both been rumoured to the acquisition of Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

There is no doubt, in my mind, that the two sides involved in this scuffle both need to a signing in that position, or will do in the very near future.

Steve Bruce has struggled to find a long-term replacement for Brad Guzan who left twelve months ago and has seemingly found the man he was looking for in Johnstone during his loan stint at Villa Park last term.

Meanwhile, Leeds United's new boss Thomas Christiansen should be aiming to replace veteran Rob Green whom has dropped in quality over recent campaigns due to his age.

So it is vitally understandable why these two clubs are chasing a new 'keeper, but I think it's more important for Aston Villa to land his signature than Leeds United, both for the team and the player himself.

Sam Johnstone knows Villa Park well now after his impressive spell in the 2016/17 season and is their number one transfer target during the summer window, so it is obviously a no brainer for both parties.

Whereas at Elland Road, Rob Green still has a year remaining on his current contract and that may result in the 24-year-old sitting on the bench or uncertain about his future at Leeds.

Also, in my opinion, I reckon whoever signs Johnstone will finish above the other as his goalkeeping quality is so very clear.

Who do you think will land Sam Johnstone's name? Which team would he benefit most from? Is he really that good to help in a promotion push? Let us get your thoughts in the comment section below!
