Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the signing of Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons on loan until the end of the season on transfer deadline day.

It will be positive to see Steve Bruce already making use of his contacts in the game as these new additions could be exactly what the Owls need to propel themselves up the Championship table.

Aarons arrives at Hillsborough with a point to prove, having been frozen out of the first-team picture at Newcastle.

But could his arrival spell the end of one man’s future at the club?

George Boyd has recently been recalled to the Sheffield Wednesday side since Jos Luhukay departed the club, and will have been keen to make up for lost time in the Owls squad.

The 33-year-old is likely to be hugely frustrated by the arrival of Aarons at the club, and he could see his game time restricted as a result.

Boyd will obviously be wanting to play regular football, and he won’t be able to get that as a result of Aarons recently arriving at Hillsborough.

Aarons displays different attributes going forward in attack, and his pace and trickery will make him a stronger option to have in the squad ahead of the ageing midfielder.

It will be a real kick in the teeth for the former Burnley midfielder, who would have been hoping to stake a strong claim for a regular starting spot in Steve Bruce’s starting XI.

But with Aarons signing along the dotted line, Boyd will surely be fearing for his future at the club, which certainly looks a bleak one heading into the second-half of the season.
